Victoria: Deadly threat at forest walk

Two children happily bounce along a forest path – and do not suspect that they are only a few centimeters away from death. When her mother later looks at a snapshot of the two, she sees: The funny hiking trip could almost have ended with a tragedy.

Shock after snapshot: What is there next to the children?

October 2019: A walk in the autumn sun, with their little ones through the forest – a sweetie from the Australian state of Victoria wanted to capture this sweet moment in a photo. Later she takes a closer look at the snapshot – and … nanu? Next to her son and daughter, who walk along the forest path calmly, she notices something unusual.

A dark scheme on the ground, only indistinct to recognize. At first the woman thinks it might be a stick. But she quickly realizes: What lay on the ground, only a few inches away from her children, is in truth much more dangerous. A snake – one of the most poisonous specimens in the world! Take a look for yourself – would you have discovered the animal?

Specifically, it is a so-called Eastern brown snake – an extremely dangerous and highly toxic animal. The largest specimens can grow up to one and a half meters long. When the snake feels threatened, it reacts quickly and aggressively, biting at lightning speed and several times in a row. Almost half of all deadly snake attacks in Australia are accounted for by the Eastern Brown Snake.

Especially dangerous: Due to its deep brown color, it usually does not show up in the undergrowth until it is too late. In addition, according to regional media, there have been many snake sightings in Australia this year – due to an unusually hot last summer.

In this case, the snake but had a good day, did not move from the spot. The family forwards the photo to a snake catcher. The expert sees the situation more relaxed: the photo shows that snakes are not always aggressive killing machines, he writes on Facebook. Sometimes they just wanted to be treated with respect and left alone.
